The winter storm that’s blanketing the area today has prompted the Colorado Department of Transportation to close Independence Pass for the winter season.

CDOT had scheduled to close the scenic stretch of Highway 82 on Friday. But with snow forecast of up to 15 to 20 inches through Thursday, it opted to close it this morning, officials said.
