Independence Pass reopens after closure due to disabled vehicle
Highway closed between mile markers 47 and 51 on Sunday evening.
Independence Pass reopened to traffic Sunday evening after a disabled vehicle caused a closure that lasted for more than an hour in both directions between mile markers 47 and 51.
The highway reopened to westbound traffic around 7 p.m. Sunday evening and was letting eastbound traffic through in batches of 10 to 15 cars at a time by around 7:40 p.m. according to Sgt. Blake White, a public information officer for the Colorado State Patrol.
The vehicle, a BMW, was disabled due to a burned-out clutch. A “good Samaritan” helped move the vehicle to the Lincoln Creek pullout to wait for a tow truck, which arrived around 7:10 p.m., White said.
