Incumbent Myers backs Wills in DA race

By Eben HarrellAspen Times Staff WriterDistrict Attorney Mac Myers has endorsed his top assistant, Lawson Wills, in the upcoming race for the 9th Judicial district attorney seat.Myers, whose term expires later this year, sent out a press release yesterday in which he roundly praised Wills’ qualifications. Myers also questioned the experience of Wills’ opponent, municipal Judge Colleen Truden.The 9th District Attorney’s region consists of Pitkin, Garfield and Rio Blanco counties. Myers has held the position since 1997.The election will probably be decided in a primary, as both candidates are Republican.”I wholeheartedly support Lawson Wills for district attorney and urge Republicans to vote for him in the primary election,” Myers wrote in the press release. “Wills is the only qualified candidate.”I urge anyone considering voting for Colleen Truden to seek out the opinion of lawyers or other people closely associated with the legal profession and ask them if prosecution experience matters for the district attorney.
