In the Saddle: Cross the ‘Mass
SNOWMASS VILLAGE The Aspen Cycling Club hosts its fifth mountain bike race of the summer season at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Snowmass Village.The Tom Blake Snowmass Cross Mountain begins just uphill from the Burlingame chairlift across from the Snowmass Village mall. For those racing cross-country Saturday at Blast the Mass, Wednesday night’s race presents an opportunity to pre-ride the NORBA course being used for the Colorado state championships. The 12-mile course follows singletrack and work roads, and features more than 2,000 feet of climbing.Senior Men A riders will begin at 6 p.m. sharp, followed by Veteran Men A at 6:02, Senior Women A at 6:04, and then Citizens, Masters, Juniors at 6:06.A few race marshals are still needed for this race; to volunteer please call Susan Carollo (aka Mouse) at 618-4626 or 922-0065. Race changes and/or cancellation because of inclement weather will be announced at the start. Parking is available near the start area, however racers are always encouraged to ride to the start.All area riders are invited to come out and race. Advanced registration is not required. Racers can register at the Snowmass Village Mall between 5 and 5:50 p.m. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Prepaid members must check in before the race start.
