In the Fall
Leaves shimmer golden against the backdrop
of the wine-dark sky, spinning one last dance before
the cold embrace of winter; the brilliance dazzles.
A light snowfall covers the mountain top, painted
a dusky rose by the lingering kiss of the setting sun.
Time moves on, each season dancing to a different hue.
in the autumn of my life I too twirl in the champagne air.
Like the leaves, soon the frosty kiss of winter snow
will come to claim me too – though not yet, not yet.
Then ecstatically exhausted like the leaves, I too will
sink into the arms of winter’s frozen splendor. I will spin
one last effeverscent turn, and gently fall to earth.
