In support of Tom
March 1, 2002
(This letter was originally addressed to the Aspen School Board.)
This is an unsolicited letter expressing our confidence in the qualifications possessed by and performance of Mr. Tom Farrell as Aspen School District Superintendent.
Although we have never attended any of your meetings, the recent publicity has caused concern not with the school administration or exceptional student performance. That is well-documented. Our concern is that a few disgruntled parents could have such a huge negative impact on an entire community.
Aspen High School has been graduating citizen/scholar/athletes ever since its inception. The success of the most recent classes is evidenced by the caliber of college/university that our students go on to attend and their contributions to the communities they live in.
It is no small coincidence that the strong performance of our AHS graduates the past decade is because of the support received from parents, community, faculty and administration headed by Tom Farrell.
The issues brought to the school board meeting are not insignificant. They are legitimate concerns that deserve serious consideration.

They are NOT school board problems, however, but student/parent/teacher/administration challenges. As two citizens who have done enough volunteer board time, the parent comments are commonly referred to as “committee work.”
We strongly urge you to recognize the considerable accomplishments of Mr. Farrell, issue a unanimous vote of confidence and allow him to continue his work with our students, parents and faculties from each school, paying particular attention to the matters recently highlighted.
