In support of Fletcher

Dear Editor:

I know Alan Fletcher to be a scholar and a gentleman, a fearless advocate for culture, and an astute diplomat. Since Alan’s arrival, the Aspen Music Festival and School and the Aspen Art Museum have collaborated on numerous free public programs.

In fact, Alan’s openness to collaboration and embracing of other Aspen not-for-profits, including The Aspen Institute, Jazz Aspen Snowmass, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and Aspen Film, has been a hallmark of his tenure. Alan has successfully led one of Aspen’s major cultural organizations through the greatest financial crisis of our generation.

We have all had to give up something that we, our families or loved ones thought essential. The difficult decisions Alan has made were done to ensure the stability and long-term viability of the AMFS – an essential element of Aspen – both the idea and the reality. The AMFS is indeed a world-class organization, and it is in the best interest of our community that its leader succeed.
