In support of CRES

Dear Editor:

This time last year we stood in your very shoes; wanting to do what is right for our future kindergartner and concerned about making the right decisions for our children. Choosing a school is a big decision and something that we spent lots of time and energy fretting over. We know how you feel.

We did the research and visited all of the schools. Fortunately, we both decided that the public elementary school right here in Carbondale would be the best choice for our children. Crystal River Elementary School is an amazing facility with passionate, loving, dedicated teachers and an administrative staff that has your child’s best interest at heart. The facilities are conducive to learning and the school has a positive energy that you feel when you walk through the front door. The facilities are state of the art, and the art, music, and physical education programs are amazing. Children are not only learning to read and write, but are also learning to exercise their bodies and their creativity.

With a child in the bilingual program and a child in the regular education program we could not be happier with the education that our children are receiving at CRES. Our children are happy to go to school in the morning, happy when we pick them up, and are receiving an amazing education. As an educator myself, of middle, high, and college age students I am quite sure that my daughter is being prepared for her future not just academically but culturally as well. I am thrilled that she is learning to speak Spanish and learning at an early age to befriend children of other ethnicities. She will be prepared to live in this culturally diverse United States of the 21st century.

If you haven’t stopped by CRES to check it out, please do. Tours of the building are every Wednesday morning and I will be happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have. This is a great school that is an important part of our amazing community. Instead of looking outside of Carbondale for educational opportunities for your child, check out CRES, CMS, and Roaring Fork High. As Gandhi so eloquently put it, be the change you want to see. Become involved and support our local schools.
