In brief: Sign up for health insurance; Basalt hosts community knit night
Health insurance sign-up season underway
Individuals and families who buy their own health insurance, instead of relying on an employer plan, are being reminded by the Valley Health Alliance to take advantage of “Insurance Season.”
The official health insurance purchasing period opened on Nov. 1 and runs until Jan. 15, 2025. Insurance purchased by Dec. 15 goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2025, while insurance purchased after Dec. 15 is effective Feb. 1.
All Coloradans can review plans from insurance providers and talk with an Assister through Connect for Health Colorado, the online health insurance marketplace designed to help people find the right health insurance plan for their budget and needs. Their website, connectforhealthco.com, also helps people determine if they are eligible for a monthly premium reduction under the Affordable Care Act.
Well-trained assistants who speak English and Spanish are available to help people understand various plans and navigate the website by calling 855-752-6749.
OmniSalud for undocumented residents
If you or someone you know is a low-income undocumented resident, free insurance coverage may be available under Connect For Health Colorado’s OmniSalud program.
OmniSalud provides all undocumented Coloradans, including DACA residents, regardless of their income level, with a safe way to compare plans and enroll on a separate and secure online platform.
People who already have fully-subsidized insurance through OmniSalud have until Nov. 22 to re-enroll. There are only 10,000 slots available statewide for the subsidized insurance, so anyone trying to sign up when enrollment opens up to new registrants at 8 a.m. on Nov. 25, should act quickly.
Contact Mountain Family Health Centers in advance to learn more, at 833-273-6627 or enrollmenthelp@mountainfamily.org. Additional information is available through ConnectforHealthCO.com and click the link on OmniSalud page, https://connectforhealthco.com/get-started/omnisalud/.
Mountain Family Health Centers will host an informational session for valley residents from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 23 at the Glenwood Springs library, 815 Cooper Ave.
Doll-up the bollards on Basalt’s Midland Avenue
Basalt is hosting a community knit night in partnership with The Art Base to encourage the community to learn fiber arts and create beautiful creations for the new bollards on Midland Avenue.
One free instruction and community knit, crochet, and sewing night will take place from 6-8 p.m. at The Art Base on Wednesday, Dec. 4. All levels of experience are welcome. Yarn, wool scraps, and knitting needles will be provided and artists can bring their own materials as well.
In addition to the community knit night, the Basalt is inviting any fiber artists in the Valley who want to create “sweaters” for bollards on the Midland Avenue Streetscape to participate. Bollards are 42 inches tall and 18 inches in circumference and designs should have a cap or alternative way to stay secure around the bollard. Designs do not have to be the entire height of the bollard.
Drop off your creations at town of Basalt Planning Office at 99 Midland Ave. by Monday, Dec. 11.
The Art Base is located at 174 Midland Ave. The community knitting sessions will take place in the classroom upstairs.
