Ill-informed and prejudicial

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:Your reporter, Eben Harrell, presented his article about The Aspen Institute open panel with Dennis Ross and Madeline Albright as ill-informed and prejudicial as can be imagined. As one of the public admitted to the secondary seating of the conference room, I cannot imagine a better-planned and considerate event for all who attended. Walter Isaacson arranged a personal presentation, with Q and A, by Mr. Ross and Ms. Albright for those in the conference rooms prior to the Paepcke discussion. The huge TV screen, with perfect sound, gave all the opportunity to attend as if in person. Those who could not be accommodated heard all via a PA system on the Paepcke steps. The institute employees handled the anticipated overflow with expertise, advising all with dispatch and grace, of the alternate space available. Allowing the public to occupy reserved by unoccupied seats as the discussions began demonstrates the efforts to satisfy as many as possible. It might be noted that some 20 or more years ago, a former Aspen City council refused to allow the institute to expand, which has resulted in the space restrictions the institute is currently laboring under. Hopefully, the institute will have current City Council support to expand its physical plant and accommodate more of us, as well as seminar participants.Your reporter’s accusation of deception by the institute makes headlines, but does not make for accurate reporting.Phil RothblumAspen
