Ignoring community sentiment

Dear Editor:The two petitions validated by the Aspen city clerk and presented to the Aspen City Council this past Monday night were signed by more than 1,000 Aspenites. These people signed the petitions asking for more public oversight of sweetheart deals being made by our government (the largest developer in town) with other developers. It is presumptuous for either our elected officials or the petitioners committee to cast aside these 1,000 voices as though they never spoke up in the first place. Ignoring the sentiment of the community is precisely the attitude seen too often by our elected officials that led to the desire to bring these petitions forward in the first place.
