Icy I-70 leads to multiple crashes

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. ” Icy road surfaces on Interstate 70 east of the Continental Divide caused multiple crashes Friday morning, resulting in one serious injury.
Five crashes involving six vehicles occurred at 6:30 a.m. just east of the Eisenhower Tunnel, according to Colorado State Patrol information officer Ron Watkins.
A semi-truck was involved in the melee, and a victim in serious condition was airlifted to St. Anthony Central in Denver.
On Vail Pass, which is west of the Conintental Divide, three crashes at 5:30 a.m. involved a semi that rolled down the embankment into the center median, Watkins reported. There was no report of injuries associated with that wreck.
Clean-up finished at 9:30 a.m., according to the patrol.
