I want to play with the big dogs

Dear Editor:

My name is Zory. I am a 12-pound, 1-year-and-9-month-old, adorable white cockapoo. I am very outgoing and love people and other dogs. During the winter I live in Boca Raton and don’t really have a lot of exposure to large dogs. I go to a dog park there, but the area I go to is restricted to dogs under 20 pounds. And a lot of them are very aggressive and nasty.

Needless to say, I LOVE coming to Aspen in the summer. And the thing I love best of all is that there is a huge variety of dogs for me to sniff and play with. Yes, I love other small dogs. But it sure is a blast playing with all the retrievers, Labs and other large dogs here.

My owner has told me some of you think it is a good idea to have a separate dog park for small dogs. Well, I think that is ridiculous. I can tell you from personal experience that, if anything, small dogs are far more likely to attack me than large dogs. In fact, while on occasion I am growled at or even attacked by one of the small dogs that are not socialized well with other dogs, I have never been even growled at by a large dog in Aspen ” they are all so friendly.

So if you want to waste your money on a jail for small dogs, go right ahead. As for me, I’ll romp with the big dogs in the parks.

P.S. An enclosed park won’t stop aggressive dogs from attacking small dogs. The only way to stop them is for their owners to keep them on a leash.
