I-70 to close in DeBeque Canyon

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

DeBEQUE CANYON – Anyone planning on driving westbound through DeBeque Canyon this weekend had better schedule their trip before 6 a.m. on March 21, because a section of the westbound lanes will be closed from Exit 62 (DeBeque) to Exit 49 (at State Highway 65) throughout that day.

The lanes are being closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. to accommodate bridge work at the east end of the canyon, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Damage to the bridge piers from the fast-flowing Colorado River will be repaired.

Westbound traffic will be detoured onto Mesa County Road 45 1/2, heading south for 12 miles to SH 65, turning north for 15 miles to rejoin I-70. The detour will be posted and staffed by traffic control personnel.
