Hypocrisy, American style

Dear Editor:Paul Andersen’s article, “Skiing, Dubai-style” (Aspen Times, Jan. 30) took a thinly veiled swipe at an entire race of people: “At the least, we can feel envy for a country that has so much oil that they can thumb their noses at global warming by simply turning down the thermostat.”This, of course, belies the fact that America is the largest polluting nation in world, and thus a root cause of global warming, but has stubbornly refused to sign any treaty that forces it to reduce such pollutants. If people want to escape the heat, who is anyone else to tell them what they can or cannot build to allow them to do so?Also, you don’t need to speak Arabic to live in the United Arab Emirates – 80 percent of the population is expatriates whose lingua franca is English.Jason KorahLexington, Ky.
