Hunter Thompson, according to his friends

Shortly after we learned that Hunter S. Thompson died, The Aspen Times decided to shelve our previously planned Times Weekly stories and focus this week’s issue on Thompson. For a fresh perspective on the author, we asked some of his friends and associates to write 500-600 words about him, and to keep it local and personal. Some of these scribes are journalists or former journalists, some are not. True to the profession, however, most of their submissions arrived late and longer than requested. We’re still printing the essays almost exactly as they came in, with little if any editing or massaging. Read on.
