Huge thank-you

Dear Editor:A huge thank-you to all of the businesses an individuals who helped Aspen High School ProStart Class compete in the state wide ProStart Culinary Student Invitational at Johnson and Wales University in Denver on March 9. ProStart, a culinary and restaurant management class at AHS, allows students to prepare for careers in the culinary arts or hospitality while they are in high school. They can earn credits toward these degrees and apply for scholarship money. ProStart trains students in basic culinary skills as well as how to run a restaurant. Our students are very well prepared to work in the industry, and we appreciate all the support from local restaurants that are investing in their future employees: Little Annie’s Eatery, Sky Hotel, Zane’s Tavern, Poppycocks, Mezzaluna, Hotel Ventures, Pacifica and The Grill Next Door.We would also like to thank Cathy Lenyo for her endless time volunteering in our class and sharing her culinary knowledge with us and the Colorado Restaurant Association for its generous donation! Also, thanks to Maggie Dorough for introducing ProStart to AHS. We are still looking for mentor chefs to help us coordinate our competition menus for next year.Jessi Bowden FriesenProStart instructorAspen
