Howard Deane Nitschke

Howard D. Nitschke, 61, passed away unexpectedly on March 3 at his home in Aspen, Colo., where he had lived since 1993. His times in Aspen were some of the happiest years of his life.He was born Jan. 26, 1949 in New Haven, Conn. He was the son of the late Wilbur Dean and Martha Ann Nitschke. He is survived by his two loving children, who will surely miss him: James Howard Nitchke and G. Catherine Nitchke. He is also survived by a 4-year-old grandson, Deven; sister Laurie A. Carroll (Nitchke); niece Kristina L. Taylor and nephew Bryan A. Mclaughlin; an aunt and several cousins.He had a love for Drum Corps and was a member in Bradford Manor, Milford Shoreliners and the Connecticut Hurricanes. He had a love for skiing and in his earlier years, was an instructor. Howard held a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s in organization behavior from the University of Hartford. He spent his entire 36 years in retained executive search, founding Deane Howard & Simon Search Firm at the age of 23. The firm held Executive Recruiter News List of the 50 leading firms nine times. In 2002, Howard founded the 21-Group. He was based in San Francisco and Aspen.Howard will surely be missed.A service will be held at the Aspen Chapel on Thursday, March 11 at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aspen Chapel for the Howard Nitschke Fund.
