How to get new skis

Dear Editor:Your story on page 18 of the Aspen Times Weekly about the Big Lift Ski “Burn” is accurate as far as I remember (“25-50-90 Years Ago,” Feb. 18). My father, older brother, and I had come to Aspen from Boulder for a few days, and when we came here we often left our skis there overnight. On this particular morning, we arrived to find our skis pretty much melted – three pairs of Head Standards destroyed. I was too young to know whether Dad had insured them or not, but we all got new skis quickly. Interesting way to upgrade and great drama for an 11-year-old.This ski storage was located across the street and a bit downhill from the Skier’s Chalet and the lift base. It was pretty convenient, and we felt we were livin’ high being able to store our skis there and have them hot waxed.Aaahhhh, the Aspen glitz! Weems WestfeldtAspen
