How they lived was important

Dear Editor:

In the first part of your Newsmakers of 2012, under honorable mentions, you included the story of the murder-suicide in Missouri Heights.

I understand that this was a big local newsmaker in 2012. However, I believe that it has no place in the Newsmakers 2012. While events like this thankfully do not happen in the Roaring Fork Valley often, I think the paper needs to consider how the story affects all the people who knew and cared for Judi and Andy Mazeika. The story does not allow the community to remember Judi and Andy as some of the most kind, funny and loving people I had the privilege of knowing and growing up with for 20 years.

Perhaps a more appropriate way of approaching the story would be community members that the Roaring Fork Valley tragically lost instead of an honorable-mention Newsmaker. I would rather Judi and Andy be remembered for who they were when they were here, not in the way that they passed away.

I know that many people in the valley would agree that Judi and Andy are loved and missed every day.
