How dare CARE?
December 16, 2005
Dear Editor:I have been following the Buster/CARE saga since the beginning. The latest twist in this pathetic unfolding saga is that CARE against the owner’s wishes took it upon themselves to ship Buster to Texas to a facility rather than allow him to spend his already traumatized life on a ranch with people who understand his trauma and are willing to work with him on it, not sentence him to death for their own possible carelessness. Amazingly, the CARE controversy seems to have been heard all around the world and has given CARE some notoriety. But the truly sad part is that because of one person’s possible carelessness, a dog’s life hangs in the balance. And not only one dog, many dogs and cats who may have otherwise received funding but may not now due to what seems like one person’s vendetta against a traumatized dog. The dog was left to suffer. How dare CARE go against the owner’s wishes and put that dog through more trauma than it has already been through over paperwork. It always amazes me when I am around animals how they somehow have a way of figuring out how to work things out and relatively quickly. And it amazes me even more how supposedly intelligent humans seem to make mountains out of mole hills because they cannot get past their egos. Saddest part, Buster could have had a special Christmas that may have helped heal some of his trauma.Alecia EvansCarbondale
