House fire still under investigation

Aspen Times Staff Report

The cause of a late-night fire Wednesday at a Brush Creek Village residence remained under investigation yesterday.

“We have labeled it not suspicious, but cause is undetermined,” said Fire Marshal Ed Van Walraven of the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department.

No one was injured in the blaze, though extensive damage was done to the 83 Sagebrush Lane home. No estimate as to the loss was available yesterday.

Aspen firefighters were called to the scene just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and found the single-family dwelling “heavily involved in flame,” according to the department.

“The fire was quickly brought under control with an aggressive interior attack supported by water supplied from the subdivision’s hydrant system,” the department said in a written statement.

Thirty-one Aspen firefighters who responded to fire remained on the scene until about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, conducting salvage and overhaul operations, according to the department. Fire investigators remained on the scene gathering information until 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Van Walraven said.

Authorities with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, Snowmass Village Police and the Pitkin County Road and Bridge department assisted in the firefighting efforts.
