Aspen Times Staff

Following a recent stay at Aspen Valley Hospital, former Hotel Jerome owner Jim McManus of Aspen and Fairfield, Conn., decided to express his appreciation for the care he received by making a large donation to the hospital. McManus and his wife, Betty, will present a check for $250,000 to the Aspen Valley Medical Foundation on Monday. The gift is in honor of his primary care physician, Dr. David Borchers, and the caregivers at AVH.Information on why McManus was in the hospital was not available because of patient privacy laws.Borchers, who holds medical degrees in internal medicine from Tufts University and did his residency at Yale, has been practicing in Aspen since the late 1990s.The gift also honors the attending staff of Aspen Valley Hospital: Katherine Bernard, Lauri Cross, Rene Fisher, Paula Hebbard, Marshal Hone, Marilyn Keating, Michelle Maccarone, Dave McKay, Liz Mercatoris, Jason Platzer, Kathy Schneider, Marcella Steward and Jeff Wold. The money is slated to help fund an electronic medical records system at AVH, which hospital officials say will allow for quicker and more efficient access to medical records by doctors and other health-care staff.
