Hospital expansion too big, expensive

Dear Editor:

We do not need such a big hospital for Aspen. If we need a larger emergency room, then let’s utilize the space that is already built for that purpose. This massive project is either someone’s macho ego trip run amok or a desire to compete with Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction, which the proponents deny.

If, as the advocates of the project proclaim, the emergency facility is needed so badly, why didn’t they build it first? The present cost to the taxpayers is already too much, and the future probably will be more expensive for all of us.

On another note, I don’t get it. The charges at Aspen Valley Hospital are extreme compared with Rifle for the same services. (I drove to Rifle for an injection because in Aspen it would be at least $400, and there it was $126.)

Why can’t they support themselves? Enough is enough. Please shut this unneeded project down.
