Hospital accolades roll in

Dear Editor:

I am the chief nursing officer at Aspen Valley Hospital, and I am excited to announce that the hospital has been identified as the recipient of two national awards for patient satisfaction. For the second year in a row, AVH was named “Overall Best Performer.” In addition, our emergency department received an award for “Five Star Service.”

These awards are given by Avatar International, a health care research and consulting firm that administers our patient satisfaction surveys. Designation is based on measurable data that is compared to other hospitals throughout the United States. Being a “best performer” means we rank in the top 5 percent of hospitals. “Five star service” means that emergency department patients ranked AVH more than two standard deviations above the national average. These results are more than statistically significant, they are confirmation that our core values of teamwork, patient-centered care, respect for others, accountability, and integrity are embraced by everyone who works here.

My career has spanned 30 years and a number of other hospitals. Nowhere in all of that time have I witnessed the degree of satisfaction that we are achieving at AVH. It is no surprise to me that AVH has received these distinguished awards. I am very impressed with the high level of service our staff provides to the community. There couldn’t be a more deserving group of people for these honors!
