Horses get some TLC

Dear Editor:On Sunday, July 24, we were in a serious accident with our horses on Highway 82 near Basalt. Astonishingly, the horses survived and everyone walked away. We would like to thank everyone who called 911 and veterinarians, jumped out of their cars not knowing what they would find and helped us get some very frightened horses (and girls) to a safe place. Thank you to the Basalt Fire & Rescue and the Basalt police for their prompt response and diverting traffic. We would specifically like to thank the woman who witnessed the accident from across the highway and ran over to help the horses, the nurse who helped with halters and checked us out, and the man who held Rex while we waited for the trailer so we could just breathe. A big thanks to Julia, Laura and Jerry for getting to us so quickly and the horses to the proper care they needed. We also want to thank Dr. Elizabeth Chandler for rushing to the barn from New Castle on a Sunday afternoon. Her calm demeanor and knowledge helped us understand what the horses had experienced and let us know that they would recover in time. To our friends, family and everyone that assisted us on that day, words cannot express how grateful we are to all of you. Krista Klees and Corey StrahmBasalt
