Aspen, CO Colorado
ASPEN ” The night ended with a new event, a new name and a new trick ” sort of.
Winter X rookie Torstein Horgmo earned the first gold in snowboard big air, landing what looked like a new trick: an off-axis 900. But the new trick was actually the result of Horgmo not being able to complete the 1260 he wanted to land.
“I didn’t have as much as speed as I wanted to, so I just gave it my all in the jump and I didn’t really have as much air time and try to get around as fast as possible to get back on my feet,” the 20-year-old Norwegian said. “That was the only way to do, I guess.”
Kevin Pearce wiped out on his first trick in the finals and sat down on the landing on his second to finish second. He still earned his second silver medal of a long day that included two finals, one elimination round ” he qualified sixth for Sunday’s superpipe final ” and five practice sessions.
