Hope prevails

Dear Editor:

To all of the participants, supporters, volunteers and kind hearts that were part of the seventh Wintersköl Hike for Hope event this past Sunday, we thank each and every one of you.

Please know that all of you have indeed made a difference for those that suffer from muscular dystrophy, a devastating, incurable disease. One-hundred, 50, 30, even seven years ago there was no hope, only a steroid Band Aid; today, however, there is great hope. Treatment and perhaps even a cure will be going into human trial; 2011 opens closed doors for a once orphan disease that affects so many children.

The seventh event is dedicated to a wonderful woman who taught us how to care, how to “MD,” Make a Difference. Bamby Patterson was the essence of giving and supporting others. She is smiling upon all of you for choosing to not sit back and sigh “oh well” but choosing to hike on with hope and drive. Thanks for making a difference and being part of something that truly matters.
