Hoops academy thanks
Dear Editor:On behalf of the coaching staff of the Aspen Basketball Academy, we would like to thank all those sponsors who so generously helped make this summer’s camp the best ever.Without them, we would not have been able to offer scholarships to so many athletes with financial need from all over the state or provide such a first-class experience. Because of their generosity, we believe without question that this camp experience was the pinnacle of basketball in the Rocky Mountains this summer. With guest speakers like Ceal Barry (the most successful women’s coach in CU history), Steve Fisher (the national champion coach from Michigan’s Fab 5 who has currently turned around the San Diego State men’s basketball program), Pat Garrity (one of the top NBA 3-point shooters from the Orlando Magic), RC Buford (the general manager from the San Antonio Spurs) and Kevin Pritchard (a top NBA talent scout for the Spurs), the kids were treated to a first-class experience in the finest facilities anywhere. Thank you, sponsors, for making all this possible.A special thanks goes out to the Limelite Lodge, Alpine Bank, The Travel Agents, Coates Reid & Waldron Real Estate, Hickory House, Aspen Pure Water, The Brothers’ Grille, Clark’s Market, Jimmy’s, Il Poggio, Johnny McGuire’s, La Cocina, Mezzaluna, Inn at Aspen, Hotel Lenado, Stonebridge Inn, Taster’s Pizza, The Stew Pot, Wienerstube, Morris & Fyrwald Real Estate, Stutsman-Gerbaz Earthmoving, the Beirne Family, the Gosda Family, the Kahn Family, the Penrose Corp., The Steak Pit, Mother Lode Restaurant, Jimmy’ s, Montagna at The Little Nell, City Market, Paradise Bakery, Aspen Pure Water, McDonald’s, The Silvertree Hotel, The Innsbruck Inn, Sky Hotel, Aspen Square Condos, Hotel Aspen and the Aspen Recreation Department.Thank you all for the help and support you give to the kids and families of this valley and around the state. Had Hailey Swirbul decided against going to Europe, she would not have finished with a career-best result in Friday’s World Cup opener. Yes, there was a time, and not long ago, when the U.S. ski team member and Roaring Fork Valley native questioned her desire to put on a race bib.
