Honor the Aspen Idea

Dear Editor:

Aspen was transformed into a world-famous resort by intellectuals, writers, composers and scientists. They came here to share their works and dreams. Times have changed over the many decades that have shaped this amazing town of ours.

We have to remember what this town was based on: the “Aspen Idea” to create a place for “man’s or woman’s complete life … where he can profit in health and physical recreation, with facilities at hand for his enjoyment of art, music and education.” The purity of their vision has been altered and maybe lost by the new times, but we need to respect what that Aspen Idea is about and not lose sight of it. The Aspen Club Living redevelopment aims to bring together participants to enhance health, wellness and family.

We need places like the Aspen Club and Spa, Wheeler Opera House, The Aspen Institute – the list goes on and on – which are excellent facilities that the Aspen Idea has accomplished over years of evolution and development. The Aspen Club is an integral part of this valley’s community, employing more than 200 people. It is a destination facility for world-wide clients and many locals for: The Sports Medicine Institute, Space, Gym, Salon and the countless other programs they provide. It always seems to me when someone in our community needs a helping hand, Michael Fox and the Aspen Club are there with their arms wide open to provide help or donations to our great community.

Reflect for a moment about why you moved here and how many times the Aspen Club was part of your life or someone close to you. Don’t you think we should move forward on a project that embodies the heart of the Aspen Idea?
