– Robert Montgomery, a kindergarten teacher at Ross Montessori School in Carbondale, has been nominated for a Disney Teacher of the Year Award. Disney teacher awards honor teachers who construct creative learning environments in which students explore, imagine and engage in a variety of thought-provoking educational experiences.Montgomery is working with his kindergarten class this year on creating short films. He is a graduate of Adams State College and he received his masters in elementary education at Oklahoma City University and his Montessori credentials from the American Montessori Society. He has also been selected to present a proposal at the National Association of Bilingual Education in Phoenix in January.- Henry Burgoyne Dodderidge of Basalt was named to the High List, Episcopal High School’s academic honor roll, for the 2005-06 fall term. This honor denotes an average of 90 or above in five or more academic courses for the term. Henry, a junior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Post of Basalt and Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Dodderidge of Middleburg, Va.- Roaring Fork School District students have raised more than $10,000 in funds and dozens of boxes of supplies for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Classrooms hosted coin collection jars, students sold relief bracelets, and kids raised funds with snack sales and a car wash. Students and teachers have collected everything from bags of personal necessities and basic school items, to library books and stuffed animals.
