Home rule fans outspending foes

EAGLE COUNTY Proponents of a home rule-style of government in Eagle County collected three times more funds than their foes as of April 26, campaign finance reports filed Friday showed.Citizens for Home Rule collected slightly more than $10,000 for its campaign to switch from a statutory form of government to one more custom made, its report showed.Citizens for Responsible Government raised $3,250 in its quest to defeat the ballot question.The May 1 election is by mail ballot only. Voters received their ballots earlier this month. It’s the only question in this special election.Home rule proponents kept the pressure on by collecting and spending a good share of their funds late in the campaign, the finance reports showed.The committee raised $4,050 between April 6 and 22. It collected $5,985 in a previous reporting period. The organization spent $3,751 in the campaign, most to produce a direct mail piece and on postage for it. Its other big expense was for radio ads.It had $3,751 remaining in its war chest as of Friday.Citizens for Responsible Government raised only $650 since April 6 to go with the $2,600 collected earlier. The organization spent all but $290 of its $3,250 in campaign funds as of Friday. Most of the expenditures were on brochures.
