DENVER ” Denver International Airport reported a smooth day of travel Sunday to close out the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

About 155,000 travelers passed through DIA Sunday, and operations were smooth, airport spokesman Jeff Green said.

Final passengers numbers for the holiday weekend will not be available until Tuesday.

The nation’s fourth-busiest airport had expected 950,000 passengers from Tuesday through Sunday, down about 17,000 from last year. About 1.13 million travelers used the airport during the week ending Aug. 6, the airport’s busiest week this year.

There were also fewer travelers passing through the Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70 for the Wednesday through Saturday of Thanksgiving week.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said 136,192 passed through the tunnel in that period this year, down from 159,429 in the same time last year.
