Hockey tournament a success
October 8, 2009
On behalf of Aspen Junior Hockey I would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the seventh annual Hockey Mountain High Adult Tournament a huge success. We could never pull off such a successful event without the incredible support of our fantastic sponsors, volunteers and local players.
Thanks to Breckenridge Brewery, the city of Aspen Parks and Rec Department, 39 degrees, La Cantina, Hickory House, Zane’s Tavern, Bad Billy’s and Brunelleschi’s for all of your support. There were 27 teams and 300 players from across the state as well as a Men’s Club team from Nora HC in Sweden. Nora HC spent 10 days in Aspen, and they’re already speaking of plans to return for next year’s tournament. The Swedish team created the most entertainment for the weekend with their European hockey style and their loud chants in the stands. We hope to see more foreign representation in the future. Everyone who participated had a great time and really appreciated the town’s hospitality.
Congratulations to the division winners:
“Open” – Aspen Leafs
“Rec A” – Bison, Denver

“Rec B” – Colorado Springs Fever
The open division championship game featured two local teams, Ute City vs. Aspen Leafs. Both teams included players who grew up playing in Aspen as well as currently coach Aspen Junior Hockey teams. The Aspen Leafs won an exciting game 5-4 in a shootout.
Thanks again to everyone who helped make this possible. On behalf of Aspen Junior Hockey we sincerely appreciate your support.
