High Country Sinfonia to host fall concert series in Aspen, Carbondale
High Country Sinfonia (HCS), a professional, musician-led chamber orchestra, will be holding its 2024 Fall Concert Series on Oct. 18 and 20, according to a news release.
“Both concerts are free to attend, with a suggested donation of $20 per person to support the orchestra’s operating costs and mission of providing music in the Roaring Fork Valley,” the release states. “Highlighting the program will be a solo performance by Aspen High School senior and talented cellist, Kurt Kowar ’25.”
A member of the local musical community since age seven and a student of Roberto Arundale, Kowar will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33,” showcasing his dedication and passion for the cello.
Kowar has participated in prestigious programs such as the Aspen Music Festival and School, Kinhaven Music School, and Brevard Music Center, and his goal is to become a soloist after graduation, traveling the world to perform, the release states.
The fall program also includes J.S. Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 6” and Antonin Dvorak’s “Serenade for Strings,” presenting a diverse selection of works that demonstrate the ensemble’s commitment to delivering rich and engaging classical music to the community.
The first concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct 18, at Aspen’s Christ Episcopal Church, 536 W. North St. The second concert is slated for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at River Valley Ranch Old Thompson Barn, 333 River Valley Ranch Road.
Admission is free, and donations to support HCS, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, are fully tax-deductible. For more information about the ensemble, repertoire, and the concert series, please visit highcountrysinfonia.org.

Now, despite the fact I’ve been bar mitvahed (in a purple velvet suit, fedora, and skinny jeans, no less), I do actually adore Christmas movies. Something about the music, the wholesomeness, the inventive ways writers figure out how to legitimize the magic of Santa Claus in the real world
