Hickenlooper to speak at ‘Peak oil’ conference

DENVER – Mayor John Hickenlooper will be among the speakers at a conference hosted by supporters of the “peak oil” theory that says the world’s oil supply is diminishing fast.

Hickenlooper will be speaking Monday morning at the conference being held in downtown Denver by the Association for the Study of Peak Oil. Gov. Bill Ritter will speak to the group Tuesday.

Subscribers of the peak oil theory say the world is at or near its maximum oil production and that demand will soon eclipse supply levels.

But most of the big oil companies don’t agree with peak-oil theorists and instead side with federal Energy Information Administration officials who say the world’s oil production peak could be as far as 40 years away.
