Herta Mueller

Herta Mueller was born on Jan. 5, 1909, in Cologne, Germany. She died on Dec. 3, 2004, in Aspen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, who passed away on March 25, 2004, in Aspen. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom live in Germany.Herta immigrated to Chicago in 1928. She continued her education there, studying English, American government and history. She successfully passed her citizenship exam and became a proud American citizen.In 1939 Herta married Walter, and together they established a successful portrait and commercial photography studio. Both Herta and Walter were avid skiers and made many ski trips to Colorado. In 1959, they settled in Aspen, where they quickly embarked on several real estate ventures. In 1974, they designed and built their present home in Pitkin Green.A memorial service is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Aspen Chapel, 77 Meadowood Drive at the Aspen roundabout.
