HeritageAspen hosting yard sale this Saturday
The city’s historical society, HeritageAspen, is widely known for its appreciation of fine antiques.
This weekend, however, the society is looking for anything collecting dust in Aspen’s attics for a garage sale.
HeritageAspen will host a fund-raiser and yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at its headquarters, 620 W. Bleeker St., said Jill Uris, programs and education director for HeritageAspen.
Locals are encouraged to donate yard sale items to the society, which will then peddle them at Saturday’s sale. Residents can also rent a 10-by-10 space and sell their items themselves.
“We are opening it up the community, so people who want to donate are more than welcome to,” Uris said.
Profits will be split between the historical society and donating parties. Those who choose to sell their own items will pay $20 in rental space and offer a 20 percent donation to HeritageAspen. If they’d like to drop off their donations with sale organizers, the first $75 will go to the society and all other profits will be split 50/50.
“We’d like nice items – we’re open for sports equipment or housewares or just about anything,” Uris said
The not-so-nice items, or anything else not sold at Saturday’s event, will receive free shipping to a local charity or the Pitkin County landfill, Uris said.
The yard sale will also provide a little entertainment – the society plans to host a few games and activities, and has even invited The Color Wheel to help attendees with pottery projects. Refreshments will also be available, Uris said.
The sale will benefit the society’s adult and child educational summer programs.
Drop by HeritageAspen headquarters to have your contributions approved or call the society at 925-3721. Donations can also be dropped off at the society carriage house on Bleeker Street.
