Here on doctor’s orders

Dear Editor:

My wife and I have been coming to Aspen a couple times a year for many years. Last August prior to extensive ankle surgery, I met with the world-renowned Dr. Vogler to get the facts about the operation and the preparation I must do. At the end of the final examination before the surgery while sitting in the examining room, Dr. Vogler who was across the room completing papers and giving me instructions absolutely amazed me when I heard him say, “Before I will operate on you, you must spend seven days in Aspen!”

Startled, I asked, “How do you know about me and my love of Aspen?” Dr. Vogler turned to me and asked, “What?” I repeated my question, “How do you know about me and my love of Aspen!” He said, “I don’t.” I asked, “Then why did you tell me I would have to spend seven days in Aspen?” Dr. Vogler, obviously amused, responded, “I said, before I operate on you, you must suspend aspirin for seven days!” Oh, well … Here I am, anyway … spending seven days in Aspen … and they are wonderful!
