Helping homeless humans

Dear Editor:

Your Friday editorial was a wake-up call to me (“Give support to our homeless,” Nov. 2). I hope it was to others as well. We raised $2.3 million for a dog and cat shelter; that was wonderful. The editorial wonders, and so do I, what kind of a budget is available to help homeless humans.

The editorial implies to me that if we can take such good care of animals, we should be able to take care of the homeless in our community. From my clinical experience, homeless people are frequently homeless because of mental disorders. They aren’t homeless on purpose. I’m going to send some money to the Aspen Homeless Commission, c/o of St. Mary Catholic Church. I hope you will, too.
