Helping hands

Dear Editor:

We want to say a huge thank-you to the Aspen community for their outpouring of love, help, support and encouragement as we go through the process of adopting our two new sons from Haiti who are both orphans and refugees.

We want to especially thanks Georgina Levey and her fifth-grade Aspen Elementary class for their thoughtful and selfless efforts in raising funds to help our new sons. Georgina is teaching her students about the importance of helping others, including those less fortunate; in this case, our two newest (soon to be adopted sons), who arrived in the U.S. shortly after the quake in Haiti.

Georgina and her fifth-grade class decided to organize a “carnival” full of fun games and prizes at the Aspen Yellow Brick School to raise funds for these two boys. They did a marvelous job and raised more than $900 to help buy them necessities when they arrive here at our home and have also decided to donate remaining funds to the relief efforts in Haiti.

What amazing life lessons these young kids have learned and are still learning. Kudos to Georgina Levey and her entire fifth-grade class for taking on such an amazing task and doing it with such great giving spirit. Wonderful job! We cannot thank you enough for all your help, support and thoughtfulness. The world is a much better place because of people like you.

Sincere thanks and much gratitude to you all.
