Help will pay off in the future
May 15, 2002
We would like to thank the Aspen Skiing Co. Environment Foundation for a grant, which is made possible by the generosity of many wonderful individual contributors and the Aspen Skiing Co.
The Science Outreach Center is dedicated to stimulating and enhancing student and teacher interest in science in the Roaring Fork Valley. Learning comes best by doing, exploring and questioning. Our philosophy is to foster interest first, then discover ways to present scientific concepts in a way that is engaging, fun and leads to self-discovery.
It is increasingly evident that the future will hold challenges requiring all of us to understand fundamental scientific principles in order that we may better understand, evaluate and find creative solutions to problems affecting our world.
To accomplish this we feel the next generation will need to rely on reason, creative thinking and problem solving to maintain our community’s quality of life. We offer a few programs to reach our goals, and reach 3,000 to 4,000 children each year.
The Science Outreach Center brings the JASON/Kids Teaching Kids Project, Beyond the Classroom (an after-school program), Science kits and outreach presentations to schools from Aspen to Rifle. We also bring Brainteasers Summer Science Camp to Aspen in June and Carbondale in July.
It is groups like the Environment Foundation that make it possible for us to bring innovative, environmentally aware science programming to our valley and make our community great.
