Help kids vote
Dear Editor:Be where the action is on Tuesday, Nov. 2 by volunteering to assist children in voting at the polls with their parents.Kids Voting USA is a national, nonpartisan educational project for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade. It engages young people and their families in voting. Teachers received training and curriculum materials before school started. They have registered the children in schools from Basalt to Rifle. Special ballots with pictures of the candidates and simplified amendments will be provided at the polls. They will even get a simplified voting guide. This program has been shown to increase adult voter turn out by more than 3 percent as the children vote at the same polling location as their parents. This is the first year the program will be in Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. To make it a success, we need volunteers to take shifts at the polls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.We will count the ballots so the results can be in the newspapers on Nov. 3. Contact the following people to volunteer for a shift: Kevin Morley, 927-2461; Cathleen Krahe, 963-9852; and Wendy Moffatt, 945-4468. Cathleen KraheCarbondale
