Heavy hand of government

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:I was disappointed to learn of the city’s actions regarding probably the only remaining treehouse in the West End. I and countless numbers of other children played in that treehouse and several others which have now been replaced by starter castles over the last 30-some years. I can’t remember even one instance of an injury. It was nice to see another generation of children enjoying it as well.If city staff needs more to occupy their time, perhaps we could make some suggestions. Perhaps we need to purchase the city engineering staff a new measuring stick, as the treehouse in question didn’t even measure 10 feet at its height; certainly not the “dangerous” 20 feet quoted by city staff. This action by the city was both unnecessary and mean-spirited, and if anything, illustrates the tremendous change within city government.Lisa MarkalunasAspen
