Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

EAGLE, Colo. ” A hearing for a man charged with attempted murder for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife Sept. 29 at a Basalt-area trailer park was postponed Tuesday until Feb. 27.

Ian Ranney was scheduled to appear in Eagle County District Court for a hearing on multiple motions filed on his behalf by the public defender’s office. Among the motions, Ranney wants graphic photographs of the victim’s face prohibited from use during a trial. If the pictures are admitted, Ranney wants them in black and white rather than color, according to the motion.

Ranney, 25, is suspected of ambushing his ex-girlfriend outside of her residence at the Aspen-Basalt Mobile Home Park shortly before dawn on Sept. 29. Police accused him of stabbing the woman repeatedly. She survived but with severe injuries to her face, neck, back and hands.

Ranney is being held on $500,000 bond.
