Have a proposal for Cozy Point?

Aspen Times Staff Report

Wanna be a rancher?

Well the city of Aspen has an opportunity for you – at Cozy Point Ranch, a 170-acre, city-owned parcel at the intersection of Highway 82 and Brush Creek Road.

Cozy Point Ranch was purchased from the Daly Construction Co. in 1994. The city originally planned to use the land for open space and affordable housing. It has since changed its mind about the housing.

Last spring, a task force was assigned to help the city devise a management plan for the property. It will review the bids and make recommendations on a final agreement, according to a memo presented to the City Council at Monday’s lunchtime work session.

“One of the things that came out of the task force is the need for better land management,” said Becca Schickling, assistant parks director.

A formal Request for Proposal (RFP) should be published soon, she said.

The RFP will require a plan that includes how the horses that board at the ranch will be cared for, how the business will be run and how the land will be managed.

The City Council asked Schickling for a chance to review the RFP before it is published. They have until Friday to respond.
