Hats off to a great event

Dear Editor:Last Wednesday was a magical day at the Aspen Historical Society because so many people lent a hand. Getting people to attend was a slam dunk, since the guest of honor was Aspen icon, Peggy Rowland. It was wonderful for all of us to have the opportunity to celebrate Peggy’s 90th year and to show her how much we value her lifelong contributions to Aspen. Over 80 men and women came to pay tribute, each sporting a unique hat signaling individual statements of fashion. The real beauty of the day came from the incredible efforts of all of the volunteers who brought fabulous food and stunning flowers as well as the music, and helped with the setup and cleanup which happened with seemingly effortless cooperation from all. The list is too long to mention everyone – however a few must be singled out for extraordinary effort: Lois Halamert for her original vision and for sharing her hat idea and recruiting support, Jane Jenkins for marshaling the volunteer troops, Ruth Owens and Edna Edeh for organizing and managing the details, and Jill Uris for being our “official photographer” for the afternoon. And kudos to the AHS staff who all pitched in at the last minute to assure that all went well.A glorious day for a glamorous glorious lady, thanks to the efforts of many. On behalf of the community and the historical society, thank you.Georgia HansonAspen Historical Society
