Harvey Preston Gallery, in collaboration with Aspen Collective, will present a two-person exhibition featuring works by Roaring Fork Valley artists Teresa Booth Brown and Alleghany Meadows. Each artist explores the concept of transitions — the moments of order and chaos, at rest vs. in play, and the phases of entropy.

“Seeing the works of Brown and Meadows together in one space, makes it apparent they both excel in the composition of their works, which is further supported by their use of color and subtlety of tone,” said curator Sam Harvey.

Brown thrives in provoking moments and eliciting the precipice of transition. Her painting and collage works draw you in with the familiar and leave you with a strange feeling of something other. Within the layers of the paintings, there is order, but there are also moments of discovery that only present themselves within entropy. The tension Brown achieves within her two-dimensional works has the space and breadth of three dimensions, inviting the viewer to step right in.

Similarly, Meadows explores the journey of objects as they transition from at rest to in use. In his series, “Flora,” Meadows draws inspiration from the cascading and intertwining structure of plant life, mirrored by creating a collection of functional objects that are housed in a larger form in an orderly fashion. Each bowl or cup represents a petal of the flower. When at rest, something magical happens and the object becomes more than a sum of parts; it blooms into an art piece and invites the viewer to use it as a stage for breaking bread with loved ones. The playfulness of using the individual components during a meal highlights the wonderful part of disorder in the cycle between order and entropy.

In “Between Order & Entropy,” both artists explore the space that naturally tends towards disorder and choose to guide and encourage the cycle back to an ordered state. This drive towards order is, in fact, just a resting place en route to entropy and back around again.
