Hardly a positive thing

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:Regarding “Do immigrants help or harm the economy?” (Aspen Times, Aug. 2), prior to the influx of illegal aliens willing to work for substandard wages, many of the so-called “jobs Americans won’t do” were performed by Americans for a fair wage. Wage depression and unemployment for lower-skilled American workers is hardly a positive thing for the economy. As for the Pitkin County sheriff’s ridiculous comment: “If they were all magically transported over the border overnight, you’d have a hard time getting your breakfast in the morning,” it sounds like somebody doesn’t like doing their job – in his case, enforcing the law. And this guy receives a paycheck? Amazing.Brad CordovaSt. Louis Park, Minn.
