‘Hardball’ not coming
A live, local broadcast of MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” planned in conjunction with this week’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, has been canceled.
The live broadcast, scheduled to take place Wednesday at the Aspen School District Theatre, was called off because “Hardball” producers felt the program’s news-heavy nature wasn’t appropriate for the festival, especially with a possible conflict in Iraq looming, organizers said.
The show, scheduled to take a one-week hiatus from its nationwide college tour, was to feature a live audience of Comedy Fest attendees as well as Aspen School District staff and students. A local connection behind the scenes was also planned as a number of Aspen High drama buffs were scheduled to assist with lighting and sound.
“Hardball with Chris Matthews” features high-profile guests from the realms of politics and entertainment – as well as Matthews’ fierce interviewing style.
Aspen City Council approved a contract with Daniel Joseph (DJ) Watkins during Tuesday’s regular meeting to move forward with his intentions to operate his proposed “Aspen Collective,” which is currently occupied by Mia Valley’s Valley Fine Art.
